The Atlanta Falcons have a terrific opportunity to finally add a Super Bowl victory to the franchise history. In the past the team has been drubbed in the big game, Michael Vick has fallen just short of making a miracle, and, most recently, the team has wasted a number one seed. Atlanta Falcons tickets will be available for two games at the Georgia Dome before getting a chance to play in Super Bowl XVLII at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Just as before and now with any football team in the NFL. This is a flawed team. The Atlanta Falcons are not particularly adept at stopping the pass and the run. The inconsistent run defense is particularly troubling, as the first postseason game is going to pit the Falcons against the best running back in the NFL in Adrian Peterson or a couple of teams with both the quarterback and running back who can tear apart any defense. This is troubling for the fans and Coach Mike Smith. In addition, the team is not really great at running the ball anywhere outside of first and goal.

Despite these issues with the run, the Atlanta Falcons are going to trouble other teams because of their passing game and the defense’s ability to cause turnovers. Matt Ryan had the fifth-best QB rating in the NFL. His only flaw seemed to be his interceptions. The 12 he threw are not particularly a lot, as it puts him in the middle of the league. However, if the Falcons are going to be playing teams that focus on running the football then a pick is going to be particularly costly. Then again, is he is able to find Roddy White and Julio Jones deep then these same teams are going to have to drop the run and try and throw the ball. Fans are hoping it is the Falcon passing game that defines the controls the game and not the oppositions running game.
