The Baltimore Ravens have finished on top of the AFC North for the second straight season and returned to the NFL playoffs for the fifth consecutive season. Over this time the defense has grown a little older and new stars have started to emerge. The offense has become more powerful too. So, these Baltimore Ravens tickets for the postseason are a little different than in the past.

Quarterback Joe Flacco has been given more and more freedom to let the football fly deep down the sidelines. This has allowed Coach John Harbaugh to rely a little less on Ray Rice. It is certainly a welcome change at M&T Bank Stadium. Flacco’s primary targets are wide receivers Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith, tight end Dennis Pitta, and running back Ray Rice. Boldin has become a more than a possession receiver and Smith is the deep threat. Pitta is one of the latest tight ends to emerge, one with terrific pass-catching and route-running skills.

Rice is, as he has always been, is the safety valve. Rice still runs the football. He is able to pick up a little more than four yards a game and scores with decent consistency. Bernard Pierce is the third-down back, a guy picking up five-plus yards a carry.

The defense, as mentioned before, has been in the midst of a transition. The result of the transition is a less than stellar run and pass defense that creates just enough turnovers to put the Baltimore Ravens offense in position to score. It is a mix of old and new. Safety Ed Reed is still hitting hard enough to draw fines from the NFL. Cornerback Cary Williams is part of the young crowd and is a corner specializing in shutting down the opposition with his overbearing coverage. Nose tackle Haloti Ngata is able to do everything from stopping the run to getting to the quarterback. If this mix of young and old is able to gel, then this could be a really exciting postseason, once again.
