Bill Maher is a stand-up comedian from America. He is a political commentator and a television host. In addition to this he is an actor and an author.

He was born to an Irish father, William, who was a news editor and radio announcer, and a Jewish mother called Julie who was a nurse. He was born in the city of New York and brought up in River Vale. He grew up in Catholic faith and attended the University of Cornell. It was here that that he first tried stand-up comedy.

The first stand-up comedy show he performed was in a Chinese restaurant in Paramus. He landed an occasional performance at Catch a Rising Star in New York. A few years later he an occasional host in the club and in 1962 he was noticed by a scout for the show of Johnny Carson. He appeared many times on that show and was pleased to get the chance to perform in the show of his childhood hero.

In 1993, Comedy Central offered him his own first talk show. The show was mainly discussion on present affairs. The show attracted many politicians and celebrities. In the year 1997, ABC started hosting the show and it grew more.

He is currently the host of the show Real Time with Bill Maher. He also hosted the show Politically Incorrect, a late night talk show currently on ABC. He is famous for his social political commentary and political satire which covers a wide range of topics including politics and religion.

He is member of a foundation which promotes secular values and scientific knowledge in the society. He is ranked 38th out of most famous stand-up comedians of all time on Comedy Central. On 14th September 2010 he got the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Bill Maher has worked hard in the show which earned him nominations for eleven Emmys. In 2003, he hosted another show on HBO. He is still single.
