History

The original founders of the act are Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton, and Chris Wink. In Manhattan in the mid 1970s, Matt and Chris become friends in junior high school. However, after graduating from high school, they went their separate paths and did not see each other for a few years.

Chris and Matt get together again after college in 1986. A little later in 1987, they met Phil Stanton who had just moved from Georgia. They formed the Blue Man Group and begin playing in places such as Central Park and other local areas.

During their early years, the men took time to communicate with the audience and sign autographs. They also discussed the act and answered audience questions. However, they finally decided that it was best to stay in character and create a mystique. They now no longer speak, and when signing autographs, it is only a bluish smear of paint.

Eventually the act began to gain popularity. From humble beginnings, they found themselves playing at Lincoln Center and off Broadway. Before long the act was wildly popular and seen almost worldwide. Most people recognize them from their famous computer processor ads.
