The show never ends for Bob Dylan. The Never Ending Tour has been a going for nearly a quarter of a century, so next year, when his fans arrive with Bob Dylan tickets they better arrive with something silver to celebrate. In 2012 those same fans are welcome to arrive for the standing-room only performances without anything but great expectations.
Those expectations are great once again not simply because of his tremendous history and iconic history, but because Bob Dylan is on the road, with Mark Knopfler, to regale audiences with a setlist comprised of his latest tracks. The word regale was not simply chosen because it sounds a heck of a lot better than “promote his new album”. By all accounts Tempest, his 35th studio album, is one of the most superb in his collection. The songwriter has reached a new level of cognizance, perfectly balancing wordplay, sincerity, humor, humility, and acrimony. The singer has not refined his vocals. Bob Dylan will forever be tinged with flaws, but he has been able to do much more than survive with his at times phlegmy, at times raspy, at times cracking voice. He has become a celestial beacon for music from the 1960s onward.
Tempest is an album composed and produced by Bob Dylan for the singer of the same name with those very vocal impurities. He tells lyrical stories spanning every human impulse and experience. He is a scarred man whose life is encapsulated in this undeniably darker album than his last. Dylan needed to visit that pit of his soul this time around. Together Through Life needed to be a little lighthearted to introduce the dear elder of folk and contemporary music. Three years later Uncle Bob needs to unburden his soul.
The latest leg of the Never Ending Tour will run from October 5, 2012 through November 21, 2012. Overall Dylan will play 33 concerts, making it 86 in total for the year and 2,478 shows total for the tour from beginning to temporary end. Bob Dylan tickets for this year’s last North American leg will include the efforts of Mark Knopfler, former lead singer of Dire Straits.
