The Buffalo Sabres were formed in 1970, but did not want to be called the Buffalo Bison, like all the other Buffalo sports teams. The team wanted something more original and unique. This lead to the team's current name, the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres are in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference and play at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York.

The head coach of the Sabres, Lindy Ruff, was a player for the Sabres in the 1979. It must be nice to be the coach of the team, rather than the player. In 1997, Ruff came back to the Sabres as the 15th head coach and was able to get the team to the playoffs his first year. It only took one more year for him to be able to get the Sabres to their second Stanley Cup Finals. With 13 years with the Sabres, he is the longest tenured coach in the NHL and is 19th in the NHL in wins of all time.

The 2010-11 season yielded the Sabres 43 wins and only 29 loses. This placed them at third in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference and guaranteed them a playoff spot. With a seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, the Sabres battled the Philadelphia Flyers. Unfortunately, the Flyers were able to extend the series to Game Seven and win.

The HSBC arena is the current home to the Sabres. It was opened in 1996 and is able to hold 18,690 people. It was at this arena that the JumboTron fell to the ice before a game between the Boston Bruins and the Sabres. Thankfully, no one was hurt and another JumboTron was installed.

The Sabres have been able to get to the Stanley Cup Finals twice, but they have not been able to bring home the championship. They first appearance was in 1975 and then in 1999.

The Buffalo Sabres have a stellar coach and a fantastic team. Yet, it all hasn't come together to get them that Stanley Cup championship, but when it does, everyone should be watching because they will blow you away.
