The Calgary Flames were formed in 1972 in Atlanta, Georgia, where they were known as the Atlanta Flames. The team was then moved to Calgary, where they received their current name. The Flames are in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.

The head coach of the Flames is Brent Sutter, who was brought over in 2009. In the first season with the Flames, he was able to produce a .549 win percentage. Not bad for his fist try. Prior to the Flames, he was the head coach for the New Jersey Devils for two seasons and was able to get them an Atlantic Division title.

The Flames were able to produce 41 wins and 29 loses in the 2010-11 season, which placed them at second in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. Unfortunately, they were not able to make it into the playoffs.

The Scotiabank Saddledome is the home arena for the Flames. Opened in 1983, it is the oldest arena in the NHL. When it first opened, its seating capacity was 16,605 people, but more room was needed for the upcoming Olympics, so 2,600 seats were added to increase the seating capacity to 20,016 people. In 1994, renovations added luxury suites and a club section, decreasing the seating capacity to 19,289 people. Many people are worried about the Saddledome's limited ability to host major events and are calling for another stadium, but a new stadium is said to be eight years away.

The Flames have appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals three times and have won only one championship. Their first appearance, in 1986, resulted in a lose to the Montreal Canadiens, but they were able to come back in 1989 and win it from the Canadiens. Their last appearance was in 2004, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Calgary Flames have been on fire since the beginning. They have always managed to get their way out of a slump, to keep on fighting for that Stanley Cup, all the while, keeping their fans screaming for more.
