The Cincinnati Reds play in the Central Division of the National League within the Major League Baseball association. Within this division they compete directly with the Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Saint Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros.

In 1869 the Cincinnati Red Stockings began their first regular season. The outcome was a forty five to nine win over the Great Westerns of Cincinnati. Then in November of that same year came the season ending match. This time they beat the Mutuals of New York by the final score of seventeen to eight. This inaugural team was known as baseballs first team of professionals. They ended the season with a perfect record of 57-0.

Throughout the teams history they have played in seven ballparks. Their newest home was built in 2003 and can accommodate just over 42,000 fans. They have gone through eleven uniform and logo changes as well. They have placed thirty players in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.

Also inducted into the Hall of Fame are thirteen managers and coaches. Some of the more popular players with the fans include Johnny Bench, Ken Griffey Jr, Pete Rose, Barry Larkin, Adam Dunn, Tom Seaver, Joe Morgan and Sean Casey. They have been to the World Series nine times and have won five of them. The last time they were in the World Series was in 1990. They swept the Oakland Athletics in four games.

Being located in the heart of downtown has made this team very popular and accessible to the loyal fan base. Their logo and team merchandise sells very well world wide, especially in Ohio and the surrounding states. In the history of this team, they have retired the numbers of nine players to date. Only one pitcher, Tom Browning, has ever pitched a perfect game, and that was in 1988.
