As one of the 10 founding teams in Major League Soccer, the Colorado Rapids play in Commerce City, a suburb of Denver. They won the MLS Cup in 2010 and reached the final once prior in 1997, when they fell to the D.C. United. The Rapids played their home games at Mile High Stadium from 1996-2001 which became Invesco Field at Mile High (2002-2006), then settled into their current home Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in 2007.
Their image has evolved along with the club, with their kit colors initially being predominantly green then changing to black and blue in 2003. Right before they made the switch to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in 2007, The Rapids’ colors became the current burgundy and blue along with a shield logo more in line with traditional global soccer marks.
Through the course of franchise history, five former athletes have been honored into the Rapids’ Gallery of Honor, established in 2003 to commemorate the club’s all-time top players. The two inaugural former Rapids and perennial fan favorites were Marcelo Balboa and Paul Bravo in 2003 followed by Chris Henderson in 2007, John Spencer in 2009 and Pablo Mastroeni in 2014.
Colorado MLS fans and Rapids’ ticket holders love this team and show up week after week, scarves in hand to watch every header, pass and kick. The Rapids are an exciting club and certainly hold their own in a town with every single major sports franchise. MLS regular season runs from March until October with plenty of dates to grab your Colorado Rapids tickets and head down to see the team in action.
