The Rockies take on a new look as the 2012 season gets underway. Manager Jim Tracy has a few more weapons in his arsenal this year. During the off season General Manager Dan O’Dowd brought in several new faces and parted with some familiar faces. Some of the faces that will be in a different uniform this year are Ian Stewart, Ryan Spillborghs, Huston Street, Aaron Cook, Seth Smith, Chris Ianetta, and several others. Some of the new faces you will see in a Rockies’ uniform this year are, Ramon Hernandez, Michael Cuddyer, Jeremy Guthrie, Tyler Colvin, Jamie Moyer and Marco Scutaro. The core of the Rockies remains intact with Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzales, Todd Helton and of course Jason Giambi. The Rockies should have no problem providing offense this year as their line up looks even stronger than last year. Scoring runs, especially at Coors Field shouldn’t be a problem for the Rockies. They also look to stack up pretty good defensively with veterans Cuddyer added to the outfield and Scutaro added to the infield. The biggest question for the Rockies will be pitching. If the Rockies can get some decent pitching out of their rotation they could
compete for NL West. The sportscasters are picking the Rockies for 4th in the NL West but maybe they will surprise everyone. Maybe this will be reversal of last year where they were picked to come in first and came in fourth.
There are two great stories surrounding the Rockies this year. One is the comeback of Juan Nicasio. After breaking his neck last year, he has recovered and has made the starting rotation in the Rockies line up. The other great story is the ageless Jamie Moyer. Moyer is 49 years old and sat last year out while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He spent some time in ESPN booth but wasn’t ready to give up without trying one more time. Moyer made the roster and is scheduled to be the Rockies number two pitcher in the rotation. Should Moyer win a game he would break an eighty year old record and become the oldest player to win a major league game. Come on out to Coors Field and enjoy the excitement of Major League Baseball.
