The Columbus Blue Jackets are a relatively new team in the NHL. They were formed in 2000 and are in the Central Division of the Western Conference at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Scott Arniel is the fifth and most recent head coach of the Blue Jackets. Before coaching the Blue Jackets, he was head coach of the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose for four seasons. For the 2008-09 season, with the Manitoba Moose, he won the A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL's outstanding coach.  On June 8, 2010, he was signed on to head coach the Blue Jackets and will be back to continue coaching them for the 2011-12 season.

The 2010-11 season brought the Blue Jackets 34 wins and 35 loses leading them to fifth in the Central Division of the Western Conference and not getting them a spot in the playoffs. The last time they appeared in the playoffs was in the 2008-09 season, where they lost in the Conference Quarterfinals to the Detroit Red Wings.

The Nationwide Arena was opened on September 9, 2000 and seats up to 18,144 people. Some unique features include two 80 foot suite towers, a 70 foot glass enclosed atrium, and a 135 foot light tower to signal when a even is in progress in the arena. ESPN The Magazine declared it, "the No. 2 stadium experience in professional sports." The combination of the arena's newness and state of the art systems must create a great hockey atmosphere.

Although, the Blue Jackets have not won any Stanley Cups, they are still a relatively young team that is going up against teams from the 1970s. It is still too early to tell what kind of team they will end up being, but it should be fun to watch them grow and try to become that superstar team they have dreamed of.
