You can catch Counting Crows as they make their way across the US leg of their 2015 worldwide tour making a stop at Red Rock Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on September 16th, 7:00 PM with doors open at 6:00 PM. The multiplatinum band kicks off the Somewhere Under Wonderland tour in Miami on July 30th ending the tour in Oklahoma City on October 11th. Special Guests will be Citizen Cope and Outlaw Road Show favorites Hollis Brown. Known for his fusion of soul, folk, and R&B, Citizen Cope puts on a commanding live show that is high energy, smooth and so much fun it’s almost illegal.
This will be the first time the band Counting Crows has gotten to play all the songs on their seventh album it was released while they were overseas so the band is over the top excited about finally playing all the songs for their US fans now that the album is out. Recognized as one of the most dynamic live bands performing today, Counting Crows will be performing songs from the 2014 Top 10 album as well as from their extensive catalog. You can find your Counting Crows tickets here! USA Today called Somewhere Under Wonderland “one of their stronger works” with Consequence of Sound comparing it to “a colorful and emotionally rich palette of sounds that combines past recording styles, flavors from covers album Underwater Sunshine, and the spontaneous spirit of their live performances.”
Counting Crows have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide since breaking onto the musical scene in 1993 they are known for creating unique and innovative concerts and consistently ranked as one of the top performing bands on the scene today. Adam Duritz, best known for being frontman for Counting Crows is also an amazing solo musician, singer-songwriter, record producer, and film producer. He is the founding member and principal composer for all of their songs. Duritz’s lyrics have been described as “morose”, “tortured” and as “wordy introspection” and his vocals are considered “expressive”.
Counting Crows has always been constructed as a live band. It just so happens that the group also has a couple of multi-platinum albums and a host of huge hits. Thus, Counting Crows tickets would be good enough on their own without hits like “Mr. Jones” to warrant sold out crowds. However, as the group has been around for more than 20 years a few hits have elongated the band’s time as a relevant and celebrated alternative rock group.
Initially, Adam Duritz and David Bryson took the stage in San Francisco as an acoustic rock duo. Over the course of a couple years the band went electric with the addition of the bass guitarist Matt Malley, keyboardist Charlie Gillingham, and drummer Steve Bowman. These five recorded a seven-time platinum album as its debut effort, August and Everything After. Counting Crows notched four songs to immediately place on a Greatest Hits compilation album. “Round Here”, “Einstein on the Beach” and “Rain King” were three consecutive radio hits.
Recovering the Satellites, a sophomore album continuing the tradition of incredibly complex titles, would go double-platinum and feature “A Long December”. After these two albums Adam Duritz, his dreadlocks, and the Counting Crows sound became popular enough to warrant mocking. To this day Duritz jokes are points of reference, like on FX’s The League. This is not to suggest the band did not alter its sound over the next decade. As alternative rock went either heavier or full-on over-saturated pop punk, Counting Crows went heavier. The band was not built for Jacksonville punk rock, but could move in a deeper, darker direction.
Since leaving the Geffen Records, Counting Crows concert tickets and albums have brought it back to the beginning, with sound reminiscent of those early hits the most requested and the material from The Desert Life, Hard Candy, Films About Ghosts, and Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings largely ignored.
