The Dallas Cowboys are looking to rebound from a disastrous 2015/2016 season that was riddled with injuries, including two to their starting quarterback Tony Romo. Their final result was a 4-12 record which certainly left feisty owner Jerry Jones with a bad taste in his mouth. This offseason, in an effort to bolster their running game which was not the same after the departure of Demarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles, they signed former Washington Redskin Alfred Morris in March and selected Ohio State stud Ezekiel Elliott with their first pick in the draft and fourth overall selection of the 2016 NFL Draft. Behind an offensive line with three Pro-Bowlers Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin, the Cowboys are hoping to pound the ball keeping their defense off the field, an offensive plan that has worked well for them in the past. The trio of Romo, stellar wideout Dez Bryant and Demarco Murray led this 2014 team to within inches of the NFC Championship Game and the hope is now with Elliott they can return America’s Team to the Super Bowl and as far away from last year’s 4-12 disaster as possible. Dallas also selected Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott in the fourth round to learn under Romo and assure them a viable

alternative if the star signal caller goes down again. Defensively, the Cowboys used their second pick of the draft on Jaylon Smith, an incredibly talented linebacker who suffered a severe knee injury and could potentially not see the field during the 2016/2017 season. The return of some healthy veterans should provide a boost to this Dallas defense including cornerback Orlando Scandrick who is also a stout leader in the locker room. Getting back a fully operational Tyron Crawford who played most of last season with one shoulder should also bolster the defensive line.

In an NFC West division that is filled with teams that have improved over the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys on paper are right there at the top. It will remain to be seen when they hit the field, but look for a vast improvement from this year’s team.
