The Miami Heat said they were going to win the NBA championship. Then, when everyone thought that the Heat were going to accomplish the impossible, the Dallas Mavericks rose up against them and were able to beat them in the NBA championship. The Mavericks were formed in 1980 and are in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference, where they play at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The leader of the current NBA champions is Rick Carlisle. Before the Mavericks, Carlisle was the head coach of the Detroit Pistons from 2001 to 2003 and the Indiana Pacers from 2003 to 2007. It wasn't until 2008, when he would get a chance to coach the fabulous Mavericks, who he would later lead to the best team in the NBA.

The Mavericks' 2010-11 Season awarded the team with 57 wins with only 25 loses. They were ranked second in the Southwest Division and awarded the third playoff seed. It just goes to show you that you can never count out anyone that is in the playoffs. The Mavericks went on to beat the Portland Trail Blazers, sweep up the Los Angeles Lakers, and silence the Oklahoma City Thunder. The NBA Championship put them against the Miami Heat. After six close games, the Mavericks were able to cool off the heat, becoming the 2011 NBA champions.

The home for the current NBA champions is the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. It was opened in 2001 and was built with a seating capacity of 19,200 people.

The 2011 NBA championship was not the first time the Mavericks were in the NBA championship or facing the Heat. In 2006, the Mavericks were facing the Heat in the finals, but they lost in Game Six. The Mavericks were able to get their revenge and beat the Heat in 2011, again in Game Six.

When all eyes were on the Heat, the Mavericks were able to steal their blaze and take the championship from them. The Mavericks will be back again next year with a greater passion for the NBA championship.
