A team that have been around for a long time is the Detroit Lions, which were formed in 1929. The team originally started out as the Portsmouth Spartans until they moved to Detroit in 1934. Despite their drawn out existence, the Lions have never won a Super Bowl championship. The Lions are in the North Division of the National Football Conference, where they play at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

In 2009, Jim Schwartz became the new head coach of the Lions, but what would encourage someone to come to such a below average team. Coach Schwartz found the strong fan base attractive enough to make his decision to coach in Detroit. Currently, he is focusing on building a stable team. In the 2010 season, Detroit finished third in the North Division with six wins and ten loses. For Coach Schwartz, he may have improved the team, but not by much with a below average record for their latest season.

The home of the Lions is Ford Field, which was opened in 2002. The stadium has an artificial turf playing surface and has a seating capacity of 64,500 people. One of the unique things about this indoor stadium is that the roof allows large amounts of natural light to hit the field.

The Lions can be seen as doing better, but they still are not a Super Bowl caliber team. Does Schwartz need more time to get the team going or has the right combination of players still not been found?
