Detriot Tigers Tickets

In 2013, the Detroit Tigers finished atop the American League Central division with a record of 93-69. Detroit fans are hoping the Tigers continue their successful ways in 2014. First year manager and former MLB player Brad Ausmus leads the Detroit Tigers into their 2014 campaign. Interestingly, Brad Ausmus has previous managing experience with the Israel national baseball team. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera will likely have a strong season in 2014. In 2013, Cabrera led the Tigers in batting average (.348), home runs (44), and runs-batted-in (37).

It's fair to say that Tiger fans would be ecstatic if Cabrera continues to put up these kinds of numbers. Considering the other accomplished players in the batting rotation, Austin Jackson (12 home runs and 49 RBI in 2013), Torii Hunter (17 HR and 84 RBI in 2013), and Victor Martinez (.301 BA and 83 RBI in 2013), the Tigers could be a tough team to beat in 2014. Offensively, the Tigers really have a good thing going. In fact, in 2013 the Tigers had the best batting average (.283) of anyone in Major League Baseball. On the mound the Tigers are an extremely talented team. In 2014 the Tigers will see the addition of star pitcher Max Scherzer, winner of the 2013 Cy Young award. The Tigers will also rely on the talented young left-hander Drew Smyly. Smyly worked hard in the offseason and now weighs-in a full twenty pounds heavier than he did in 2013. With the added muscle, expect Smyly to surprise people with his strong accurate arm.

One major concern for all Tiger fans is the health of pitcher Justin Verlander. Verlander recently underwent surgery to repair damaged abdominal muscles. Verlander is expected to need at least six weeks to fully recover from his surgery. Tiger fans will have to keep their fingers crossed that Verlander quickly returns to full health.

Expect the Cleveland Indians to compete with the Tigers for first place in the AL Central division. The Indians finished 2013 only one game behind the Tigers. Prepare for an exciting year because the Tigers are full of potential and the start of the season is right around the corner!

Detroit Tigers Tickets

The Detroit Tigers are a baseball team with four World Series and 11 American League Pennants. Not too bad. Those totals rank as the fifth most Fall Classics and have won the ninth most. These are numbers to be proud of.

Of course, so is its collection of Hall of Fame players wearing Tigers baseball caps. Perhaps the most famous of these are Ty Cobb and Hank Greenburg. Cobb may have been the first superstar in the sport. He played for the Tigers for 22 seasons and ended his career with the highest career batting average ever at .366, along with 12 batting titles, an MVP season, and 54 steals of home plate. The Detroit Tigers went to the World Series three times while he played, losing each time.

Comerica Park TicketsHank Greenburg was the next star for the franchise. Greenburg was one of the first great Jewish baseball players, for which he fought prejudice throughout his career. He played for the Tigers in spurts. It so happened that during those spurts the Tigers played in four World Series, winning two (Detroit’s first two). He also managed to hit .313 for his career and bash 331 homeruns. The fact that he only appeared in five All Star games is a travesty, though at least he won two AL MVPs. If he had not served in the military in World War II, he would have put up even gaudier numbers.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the chance to celebrate the next great Detroit Tiger to enter the Hall. Cecil Fielder is a fan favorite, but he is a longshot because his impressive home run total (319) is coupled with a suspect .255 batting average. Perhaps the fans will have to wait until this next batch of stars, Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera, to retire. Cecil’s son, Prince, may even make his father proud and end his career with a Hall of Fame worthy performance.
