Originally apart of the World Hockey Association, the Edmonton Oilers were formed in 1972 under the team name, Alberta Oilers. As time went on, they changed to the Edmonton Oilers and became apart of the NHL in 1979 when the WHA merged with the NHL. The Oilers are in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference and play at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Tom Renney took the head coaching job of the Oilers in 2010, making him the 10th head coach of the team in franchise history. Although he has not been with the Oilers for long, he was previously the head coach of the New York Rangers for four years. His other coaching jobs include being the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks and coaching Team Canada in 2004 and 2005.

With 25 wins and 45 loses, the Oilers did not have a great 2010-11 season. They were at last place in the Northwest Division and did not have a shot at making the playoffs. Never fear, there is always next year.

The home of the Oilers is the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta. Opened in 1974, it is one of the oldest arenas in the NHL. Several renovations throughout its life time have kept it up to date. With a seating capacity of 16,839 people, the Rexall Place is one of the smaller arenas in the NHL. It is the only arena, in the NHL, to have the players' benches on the same side as the TV cameras.

The amount of Stanley Cup championships reflects what kind of team the Oilers are, much better than their most recent season. They have been able to get to the Stanley Cup finals seven times and have won five. All the five championships were won between 1984 and 1990.

The Edmonton Oilers' championships should remind them that they can be a great hockey team, even with a bad season. Regardless of what anyone says, everyone will get into a slump, but what separates the winners from the losers is if you are able to come back with a bang.
