The Florida Panthers were formed in 1993 and are the southernmost team in the NHL. Their latest seasons have not been of the highest quality, but they have been able to make it to the Stanley Cup championship. The Panthers are in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference, where they play at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.

Kevin Dineen will enter the 2011-12 season as a first year head coach with the Panthers. This will be his first time head coaching a NHL team. Previously, Dineen was the head coach of the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, where he was able to get the highest winning percentage in franchise history.

The 2010-11 season did not give the Panthers any confidence boost. They were only able to gain 30 wins with 40 loses. This put them at fourth and last place in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference.

The BankAtlantic Center has been the home of the Panthers, since it opened in 1998. Construction first started in 1996 and needed to be completed for the 1998 NHL season. The arena has a seating capacity of 17,040 people and seventy suites. The suites are special because they average 650 square feet, which makes them the largest in the country for this type of arena.

It took the Panthers only three years to make it to their first Stanley Cup championship in 1996. Unfortunately, the excitement was grabbed right out of their hands when the Colorado Avalanche were able to sweep them. They have only made it to the playoffs twice after missing the Stanley Cup in 1996. That's a pretty rough streak for any team.

The Panthers have not done well in the last nine seasons. With a new coach, this could be what the team needs to get back on its feet and continue to chase down the elusive Stanley Cup.
