A Profile Of Gym Class Heroes The Band
Gym Class Heroes the Band was launched in Geneva, New York during 1997. This group's musical genres include rap rock and alternative hip hop. These artists are notable for not incorporating samples into their music, which is a common practice among hip hop musicians. Sampling involves using a sound recording clip and blending it into a new and different song.
This group's demo projects include the 1999 release of "Hed Candy, " and the 2000 release of "Greasy Kid Stuff." Among the studio recordings are the debut release, "For the Kids" (2001). Follow-up releases include "The Papercut Chronicles" in 2005, and "As Cruel as School Children" in 2006. "The Quilt" was released in 2008, and The Papercut Chronicles II in 2011.
Two EPs were also released by the group, one in 2004 (The Papercut EP), and the other in 2008 (Patches from the Quilt). In addition to recording albums, this group has released 11 music videos. The body of work released by these musicians has earned them numerous awards and nominations. Among them are Best New Artist and Best Group from the MTV Video Music Awards. Also, the group was nominated for Ultimate Urban by the MTV European Music Awards. Recognition by the Hip-Hop Nation Awards include Best Rap Group, Best New Artist, and Best Rap Song by a Group.
Current members of the group include lead singer Travie McCoy (since 1997, co-founder), and percussionist/drummer Matt McGinley (since 1997, co-founder). Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo has been the lead guitarist and backing vocalist since 2004. Also joining in 2004 was bassist and backing vocalist, Eric Roberts. Former members include co-founders Ryan Geise (bass) and Milo Bonacci (vocals and guitar), as well as Jason Amsel (guitar) and Steve Decker (MPC, Music Production Center).
Gym Class Heroes the Band maintains a busy touring schedule. They include performances throughout California, Arizona, Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, and Minnesota. A variety of bands from several genres will be joining the group during its tour.
