Formed in 1967, the Houston Rockets had a tough time with their first season in the NBA, but once they started building up their team, they were able to be contenders for the NBA championship. The Rockets are in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference where they play at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

The new head coach for the Rockets in the 2011-12 Season will be Kevin McHale. He has had previous head coaching experience with the Minnesota Timberwolves when he had to finish out the 2005 and 2008 NBA seasons because the starting head coaches were fired mid season.

The 2010-11 season was decent for the Timberwolves. They were able to claim 43 wins, but with 39 loses. Their efforts gave them last place in the Southwest Division, but ninth place in the Western Conference, just missing the playoffs by the skin of their teeth.

The Rockets are housed at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Opened in 2003, it is one of the newer arenas in the NBA. The seating capacity for the arena is at 18,043 people. Although the arena can't have the legacy of the being the oldest arena in the NBA, one of the perks of being a newer arena is that it is built with all of the state of the art systems. The arena has a state of the art audio system with the highest resolution video system in North America.

The Rockets have been able to blast off to four NBA championship appearances in 1981, 1986, 1994, and 1995 and have been able to land back to back championships. Their first victory was in 1994 in Game Seven against the New York Knicks and the next one was in 1995 with a sweep of the Orlando Magic.

The Rockets did not make it into the playoffs this last season, but they are not out of fuel yet. They have been able to get back to the NBA championship before and they can sure enough do it again.
