Major Lazer and Damian Marley are taking over the Red Rocks Amphitheatre on January 30th! Major Lazer is an electronic music project created by Diplo and maintained by producers/DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire (of Black Chiney), who assist for the production and live shows. The music covers a multitude of genres, typically blending reggae and dancehall music with dance genres such as moombahton and electro house. The group has released two full length albums, Guns Don't Kill People, in 2009 and Lazers Do and Free the Universe, in 2013. Not without saying, they also released the EP, Apocalypse Soon, in March 2014, featuring vocal contributions from Pharrell Williams and Sean Paul and has also produced Snoop Lion’s debut album, Reincarnated.
Being the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley, Damian Marley is having no problem establishing himself as a respectable Jamaican reggae artist of today. Marley has released six studio albums, his most successful being his third, Welcome to Jamrock, which was released in 2005, selling 86,000 copies in its first week of release making this his first certified gold record. Furthermore, the artist also won Best Reggae Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance for Welcome to Jamrock, at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Some of the other popular singles from the album include "The Master Has Come Back", "Road to Zion" featuring Nas, and "Khaki Suit" featuring Bounty Killer and Eek-A-Mouse. Marley has defined his music as "dancehall and reggae,” to the newspaper, the Jamaica Gleaner, “I’ve noticed ... people trying to separate the two of them.” He explains, “It's Jamaican culture in general. I don't try to classify or separate." Considering Damian Marley and Major Lazer have very similar sounds, there is no doubt that this performance will be the most laidback dance party of your life!
