There is no other league like the NBA, so when the Indiana Pacers were creating a dynasty in the American Basketball Association, since their formation in 1967, to joining the NBA in 1976, they should have known that it was going to be a tough transition. The Pacers are in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference, where they play at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Frank Vogel will take up his first head coaching position with the Pacers, but don't let his inexperience in head coaching fool you. He has been with the Pacers for four years as an assistant coach, so he knows the players and how the team operates. Hopefully, it will be a smooth transition for Vogel and the Pacers.
The 2010-11 season was good enough for the Pacers. They were only able to secure 37 wins, but with 45 loses. Surprisingly, their record was enough to put them at second place in the Central Division with the eighth playoff seed in the Eastern Conference. Sadly, their luck ran out in the First Round when they lost to the Chicago Bulls in Game Five.
The home to the Pacers is the Conseco Fieldhouse, which was opened in 1999. It first opened with a seating capacity of 18,345 people, but was increased in 2006 to 18,165 people. The design of the Conseco Fieldhouse follows the Hinkle Fieldhouse of Butler University, which is said to be one of the best places to watch a basketball game.
The Pacers have only known the excitement of being in a NBA championship game once, in 2000. Their first championship appearance was against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Pacers were able to put up a fight and push the series to Game Six, but the Lakers ultimately won.
A dynasty was built by the Pacers in the ABA, but when they came over to the NBA their dynasty did not come with them. It is now their job to rebuild their dynasty in the NBA to show their fans what a real Pacers' team looks like.
