Iron Maiden TicketsIron Maiden Is Still Rocking The World After Three Decades
Rock band Iron Maiden burst onto the international heavy metal scene in 1982 with their album The Number of the Beast. The release was the first featuring Bruce Dickinson as the lead singer for the band, which was founded in 1975 by bass player and UK native Steve Harris. In 2006, MTV ranked them fourth on their list of greatest heavy metal bands ever.
The band has gone through numerous lineup changes over three decades of performing and recording. The current lineup consists of Dickinson, Harris, drummer Nicko McBrain and guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers. Michael Kenney performs on keyboards when the group tours.
Their mascot Eddie is perhaps more recognizable than the musicians themselves. The rotting corpse figure, also called Eddie the Head, is featured prominently on album covers, t-shirts and promotional materials. UK music magazine Metal Hammer awarded Eddie their Icon Award in 2008.
The group made international news headlines in 2008 when they embarked on their worldwide Somewhere Back in Time Tour aboard a chartered Boeing 757. Bruce Dickinson piloted the plane, dubbed Ed Force One for the 50,000-mile journey that included stops from Argentina to Australia. In 2010, the group loaded up Ed Force One and set out on the Final Frontier World Tour with stops on five continents and first time appearances in South Korea, Singapore and Indonesia.
The Final Frontier Tour is the subject of En Vivo! Released in early 2012, the 2 DVD set features a live show footage from Santiago, Chile and a documentary offering a insider's look at what goes into a typical concert. Iron Maiden kicks off another world tour in June 2012 with content and production reprising their 1988 Seventh Son of a Seventh Son tour. The summer schedule begins in Charlotte, NC and features amphitheater, festival and arena shows across the United States and Canada. The tour marks their greatest penetration of the North America market in several years.
