Jerry Seinfeld was born on April 29, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Massapequa, NY. After appearing in some college productions, he became interested in stand up comedy.

His first major appearance was on Rodney Dangerfield's HBO special, which was a direct result of his performing at an open-mic night at Catch a Rising Star comedy club. His first television role was on the sitcom, Benson, where he played a mail deliverer.

In the early 1980's he began making appearances on talk shows regularly. His first talk show appearance was on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson". He appeared many more times on that show, as well as "Late Night with David Letterman".

In 1989, Jerry collaborated with Larry David and to create "Seinfeld", the show that he would become best known for. The television show was amazingly successful, and ran for nearly 10 seasons. It was based, in part, on Seinfeld's own life and it costarred Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander. There are rumors that Louis-Dreyfus' character was based on a comedienne girlfriend of Seinfeld's, but he has denied that.

When "Seinfeld" ended, Jerry went back to his roots, and began performing stand up comedy again. While touring with his comedy show, he has filmed comedy specials and made numerous special appearances on television shows, including an episode of Larry David's show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, which also included appearances by other cast members of the "Seinfeld" show. He also provided the voice for a character in the movie "Bee Movie" and has filmed many commercials.

Seinfeld is also a best selling author, having written books for both adults and for children. His book "Seinlanguage" went to number one on the New York Times bestseller list. There are many books that have been written about both the show and the performer, though most of them are not written by Jerry Seinfeld.
