John Fogerty the American musician, singer-songwriter, and guitarist who is best known for being the front man for Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) and since splitting with them in 1972 he has enjoyed a very successful career as a solo recording artist. Fogerty made the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 100 Greatest Guitarist (at #40) and the list of 100 Greatest Singers (ranking at #72). John was born in Berkley, California and is the younger brother of CCR’s Tom Fogerty with whom he started the band with. Barry Oliver, creator/producer of the Berkeley Folk Festival is the man who taught John how to play the guitar. Many of the songs John has written come from his very life experiences like camping at Putah Creek, near Winters, California which is the subject of CCR’s hit song “Green River.”
John was honored as a BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc) Icon at the 58th annual BMI Pop Awards on May 18th 2010. The BMI is one of three United States performing rights organizations, who along with ASCAP and SESAC collects license fees on behalf of songwriters, composers, and music publishers and distributes the royalties accordingly. BMI Icons are selected because of their “unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.” Fogerty has been influencing the musical world for over 50 years. Becoming very active in the last five years John has released such albums as Wrote Songs for Everyone in 2011 which is a collection of classics and tracks from hits he performed with other artists, and included two new Fogerty-written songs. He wrote the opening song for the FOX TV series The Finder, called Swamp Water. He is set to release his memoir titled, Fortunate Son: My Life, My Music and assures fans this will be an unvarnished look back at the highs and lows of his personal and professional history. John had this to say about his book “You’re going to hear where it all started, my passion to become the best musician I could be. You’ll travel down some rough roads, but that road leads to something beautiful. My book won’t be sugarcoated! It’s all in there.” John Fogerty is a legend among musicians and humans alike.
