They changed the face of rock and roll in the 1970s, had a comeback in the 1990s, and have completed the cycle by becoming legends. As legends, this band has the right to do whatever they feel like. In 2012 they feel like releasing a new album that feels like something from their heyday and they feel like embarking on a journey across the United States with Motley Crue known simply as “The Tour”. Yes, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer, and Tommy Thayer have KISS tickets for a new set of performances in which they will once again become the Starchild, the Demon, the Spaceman, and the Cat.
Monster, the new album, is set to be released in October 2012, more than a year after KISS announced the title of the record on their official website. Stanley and Simmons would have never Ok’d this production if Sonic Boom was not received so well. Sonic Boom was adored by the new generation of metal and hard rock fans, bridging the gap between this generation and the original metal fans from the 1970s and 1980s. Monster continues where Sonic Boom left off, delivering a knockout blow by combining the force and energy of Sonic Boom with Destroyer, KISS’s first platinum album, and 1992’s Revenge.
The tour with Motley Crue is not the first with the group. Back in the early 1980s, when the Crue were still learning the proverbial ropes and were still building a fan base, KISS took them on out as a supporting act. Decades later, both bands have had their ups and downs and both have become gatekeepers to the kingdom of hard rock. On this tour they are equals, with each the headliner and each putting together a 90-minute performance complete with explosions and rotating stages. KISS, of course, also has make up, leather pants, and protective gear.
KISS and Motley Crue will be performing side by side until September 23, 2012 when they end the arduous concert schedule with a show at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut. The last leg of this tour are going to be one heck of a time, with as much heat coming out of the speakers as is raining down from the sky.
