Los Angeles Angels Of Anahiem

Los Angeles Angels of Anahiem (LAAA) originated in 1892, making it the first sports team in the city of L. A. It wasn't until 1966 that the organization moved to Anaheim. When the Major League expanded in 1958, to include the west coast teams, the LAAA became part of the American League in 1961 and the Western Division in 1966.

Maybe mirroring the fast moving nature of the city, the franchise has moved around a bit. Originally playing at Wrigley Field (not Chicago's), the franchise moved to Dodger Stadium in 1962. The stadium was shared with the Dodgers until 1965.

The organization then moved to the newly renovated Edison International Field of Anaheim in 1965. The stadium and the franchise adopted the city's name in exchange for the city's financial participation in the facility. They also changed the name to represent the moves; Los Angeles, California, Anaheim, finally ending with the longer inclusive LAAA.

Star quality has marked this team in its owners. "The Singing Cowboy" Gene Autry was the owner for the original 36 years of the franchise existence. Though no pennant was ever won, the LAAA made three trips to the playoffs. Adding to the glitter, in 1997 The Walt Disney Company assumed ownership. Five years later produced a pennant and the World Championship. Currently, Arturo Moreno is the owner.

Even though the team has changed owners, names, and locations, the LAAA is known for fan loyalty. From 2002 to 2010, the annual attendance has held at over three million, and more amazingly has welcomed two million or more fans for each of 27 consecutive seasons.

Even with tough competition for fan loyalty with the Dodgers, LAAA fans and franchise have carved out several traditions that keep bringing the people back. With gimmicks and notable songs at the beginning and seventh inning stretch the fans have made the Los Angeles Angels of Anahiem their family.
