Like the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA, the Los Angeles Kings are a team to be watching for. In 1966, Jack Cooke was given a chance to create an NHL team in Los Angeles. With this once in a lifetime opportunity, he was able to form the Los Angeles Kings in 1967. The Kings are in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference, where they play at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The king of the Kings is Terry Murray, who was named their head coach in 2008. He has been able to improve many categories of the Kings' play and lead the Kings to their first playoff appearance since 2002. In his head coaching career, he is well past the 400 win mark and has previously coached the Washington Capitals and the Florida Panthers.

Lead by Murray, the Kings were able to grab an impressive 46 wins with 30 loses in the 2010-11 season. This placed them at fourth in the Pacific Division with the seventh playoff seed in the Western Conference, where they would face off against the San Jose Sharks. Unfortunately, the Kings lost to the Sharks in Game Seven.

The Kings' kingdom is at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. It was opened in 1999 and has a seating capacity of 18,188 people. It is estimated that this arena receives four million visitors a year.

Unlike their counterparts in the NBA, the Kings have only made it to the Stanley Cup championship once, in 1993. The Kings went up against the Montreal Canadiens and were only able to win one out of the five games.

The Kings' championship record will not show that they are the kings of the NHL. Their new coach is set on changing that misconception and has already made some progress by getting the Kings back into the playoffs. Set on the path to being a great NHL team, only time will tell if they will truly be the kings of the NHL.
