Not many people know why the Los Angeles Lakers are called the Lakers. The team originally started in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers. The name, "the Lakers," came from Minnesota's nickname, "Land of 10,000 Lakes." It wasn't until 1960, when the Lakers moved to Los Angeles to create the team they are today. The Lakers are in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference, where they play at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Lakers have been in the NBA championship 30 times, the most in the NBA, and have won it 15 times, the second most in the NBA. Their first appearance and win was in 1950, the premiere season of the NBA, and their latest appearance was in 2010, which was a win.
