If you're looking for a psychedelic rock band that will have you seeing love and smelling beats, look no further than the trippy, out-of-this-world musical styling of MGMT.
The band was formed in college by Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. They were attending Wesleyan University at the time and when they met each other they were both thrilled to find a like-minded musician friend. In fact, the two friends weren't even looking to start a band together; they just wanted to hang out, share interests, and listen to music together. Since it can be hard to find artistic friends that share the same visions as you, the two linked up to make music and the rest is history.
MGMT is about as out-there as a band can venture without losing the crowd. In fact, they do just the opposite, with their loyal fans always dressing up in extravagant costumes to see the show and show some love and support. Dancing and parties are always synonymous with MGMT shows.
Their first album, Oracular Spectacular, is a treat to the senses. The melodies are soulful yet delicate, technological while classic. Transporting you from outer space to an underwater wonderland and back to the sandy beach again, this jet-plane ride of an album will leave you thirsty for more mental adventure. Their second album, Congratulations, is even more psychedelic, but in a musically delicious way.
The band has been lucky enough to work with the likes of The Flaming Lips, M.I.A., and Radiohead. With such prestigious partnerships, this has to say something about the quality of music MGMT is capable of making.Rarely does their come a band that can take you on a journey with them. MGMT has stated that this was their goal in making music, and it is clear that they've succeeded.
