The MLB All-Star Game which is also been referred to as the “Midsummer Classic” is the annual baseball game sanctioned by Major League Baseball and is between professional players from the National League or NL division and the American League or AL division.
This year the Cincinnati Reds are hosting the game for the first time since the 1988 Major League Baseball All-Star game was played at Riverfront Stadium. This year it will be played at Great American Ball Park which is the home field of the Reds and is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The field opened in 2003 and replaced Cinergy Field formerly Riverfront Stadium. The Great American Ball Park is not patriotic in its naming it was named from the Great American Insurance Group who purchased naming rights.
You can find your All-Star tickets here! The park was chosen to host and an announcement was made by MLB Commissioner Bud Selig on January 23, 2013 to be the field for the 2015 Major League All-Star Game. This will be the 86th edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Usually the game occurs on the second or third Tuesday in July and is meant to mark the half-way point in the MLB season though it’s not technically the middle which occurs usually the week before the game. Both of the leagues share a common All-Star break and have no scheduled games on the day before or the day after the actual All-Star game itself. The players are currently selected by fans for starting fielders by managers for pitchers and by managers and players for reserves. The venue is chosen by MLB special committee and may be made to commemorate a particular historical occasion, the opening of a new ball park, or a significant year. The very first All-Star game was held as part of the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago, Illinois at Comiskey Park and was Arch Ward’s baby he was the then sports editor for the Chicago Tribune. Intended to be a one-time event, its success resulted in making it an annual event that we all know and love to this day!
