Marc Anthony is, quite impressively, the best-selling salsa artist of all time. This is an incredible statement for an artist who is merely 43 years old. Somehow in just over two decades he has sold over 12 million albums globally, and now, as a man newly single, he is on tour with Chayanne and Marco A. Solis on the Gigantes Tour. The Gigantes tour is the biggest tour for fans of Latin music in 2012 and it might as well be entitled be selling Marc Anthony tickets since he is by far the biggest name on the board every show.
Anthony is able to do this despite not having released an album since 2010. That album, Iconos, is a certified Latin success, going platinum. Marc paid tribute to Latin legends of old – Jose Luis Perales, Juan Gabriel, and Jose Jose – but now any homage to the salsa genre must include a few of his hits, maybe even a crossover hit like “I Need To Know”.
He has spent his time away from the music industry adding to his filmography. He has played Jada Pinkett Smith’s love interest on the cable medical drama HawthoRNe and he has mended fences with ex-wife Jennifer Lopez on a new project to debut in late 2012. The divorced air will act as judges covering 21 countries across Latin America in search of the very best in hopes of creating the most exciting and the most successful Latin-themed show in Las Vegas. The program is Q’Viva! The Chosen.
Hopefully, this reality talent show is just the beginning of his return to the music side of the entertainment industry. The Marc Anthony tickets made available in the summer of 2012 has only whetted the taste buds of the tens of millions of fans of salsa in North and Latin America. It would come as welcome news if Marc would announce the intention to record and release his 12th studio album, or perhaps release his third live album in collaboration with Chayanne and Marco A. Solis.
