The Masters Golf Tournament Is An Annual Tradition

The Masters Golf Tournament, which was established in 1934, is generally referred to as The Masters. It's one of four major championships that are contested throughout the year in professional golf. It takes place at the start of every April at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. It's the first major championship of the year.

The tournament was launched by Clifford Roberts and the course was designed by Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie. It's an invitational event, which means there are usually fewer players than in other major championships. There are also several traditions related to the event, such as the winner being awarded a green jacket, which is theirs for the year and is then returned to the club.

As of 2011, the golfer who has won the event the most times is American Jack Nicklaus, with six championships between the years 1963 and 1986. Americans Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer have each won it four times. Gary Player, Jimmy Demaret, Nick Faldo, Phil Mickelson, and Sam Snead have each won the title three times.

The first non-American player to win the event was Gary Player, who hails from South Africa. Player was victorious in 1961. The 2011 winner was Charl Schwartzel, also of South Africa. The course itself is a par 72 and is a total length of 7,435 yards. It opened its doors in 1933 and it has undergone several modifications over the years by numerous architects.

The greens have been completely rebuilt and reshaped, bunkers were added, new tees were introduced, water hazards were extended, mounds were installed and hundreds of trees were planted. Along with the prize money, the Masters Golf tournament features awards for players who achieve exceptional feats. The player with the lowest daily score is awarded a crystal vase and anyone hitting a double eagle or hole-in-one is presented with a crystal bowl.
