In 1995, the NBA was expanding into Canada and Vancouver, British Columbia decided to become the home to the Vancouver Grizzlies. Then, in 2001, the team relocated to Memphis, Tennessee to become the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference, where they play at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee.
The leader of this pack of Grizzlies is Lionel Hollins, who became the Grizzlies' head coach on Jan. 25, 2009. With previous experience coaching the team in 2000 and 2004, Hollins is no stranger to these Grizzlies. Already having knowledge of the team allowed him to dive right into the team's mechanics to build a truly great basketball team.
The Grizzlies dived right into the 2010-11 season and grabbed 46 wins with 36 loses. With a sour fourth place in the Southwest Division, the Grizzlies were able to pull off a surprising eighth place in the Western Conference and get the last seed in the playoffs. In a fortunate turn of events, the Grizzlies beat the top seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round. They then took the fight to the Oklahoma City
Thunder and brought it to seven games, but were defeated.
The Grizzlies' den is the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee. It is one of the newer arenas in the NBA with its opening day in 2004. Often referred to as the, "Grindhouse," it is the first arena to use the fan inspired see through shot clocks.
There is a misunderstanding among most people in that the number of championships a team holds reflects how great a team is. The Grizzlies were able to make it to the second round of the playoffs, but they have not won any championship, conference, or division titles, but there will come a time when they will have a chance to secure a title and they will no longer be mistaken as a poor NBA team.
