The biggest question surrounding the Miami Heat in the 2013-2014 season is: Can they do it again? It seems to be all speculation now with different teams bulking up their benches and being seemingly more healthy than the Heat. Keeping their game at a certain level is another issue that could affect the outcome of this season for Miami, but the biggest problem seems to be the new tax situation with the NBA and how that is affecting them.
There are a few big headlines concerning the Miami Heat and the return of Greg Oden is definitely one of the bigger ones. Riddled with injury, Oden sat out for the 2012-2013 season, and with ample time to recover, he received multiple offers from different teams. Eventually, he signed with the Heat, but the question here is what can he add to this already championship worthy team? Don't expect much at first as he shakes off the rust, but Miami is hoping he will be a real contender come mid season. The other big name with health concerns is Dwyane Wade, who was able to slowly recover due to having Mike Miller helping in his position. That being said, Miller was lost this offseason and Wade will definitely have to step it up, as well as keep healthy, because the days of relying on a great backup are over.
The Heat will have the biggest trouble stacking up with teams like the Pacers and Bulls. With these heavy hitters, there is a good chance that the Heat could fall short. The biggest issue is being able to keep their A-game at all times, and doing so will require a big step up from Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. These two seemed to kind of take a backseat last season to the almighty talents of LeBron James. The problem with that this season; there won't be enough weak spots for LeBron to find on these big teams after they took advantage of this year's offseason and stacked their benches.
The biggest problem this season is hanging on to players. With the new NBA tax situation, it is proving hard to keep their big names. Not asking for much, their season could start off alright but if injuries occur they could be in trouble. Not to mention, they took a big risk when signing Oden.
Overall it will be interesting to watch the Miami Heat this season and being the reigning champions, everyone will want a piece of them. If they can remain healthy and step up where it is needed, they will be sure to head back to the championship.
