The Minnesota Vikings have been in the NFL since 1961. In their 51 years in the league they have been able to make the Playoffs 26 times, win their Division 18 times, and win one NFL Championship in 1969. Though lately the Vikings have been looking for a change in the right direction, no one can question this team’s desire and passion for the game of football. The Vikings compete in the North Division of the NFC, where their home field is Mall of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Last season was a difficult one for the Vikings to swallow. After finishing the regular season with a 3-13 record, the team is ready to turn it around. Though it is tough to see a team with such potential hold a losing season, there is hope in the sense that the team has a foundation to correct their mistakes. For instance, last year the Vikings believed they had the perfect quarterback in Donovan McNabb. Unfortunately after week 6 McNabb was out and the fate of the Vikings rested on rookie quarterback Christian Ponder who surprisingly showed he has what it takes to lead a powerful offense. The Vikings look to capitalize on veteran players such as Jared Allen, who last year set a franchise record 22 sacks. They also look to develop a team around a talented young quarterback in Ponder, and explosive running back Adrian Peterson.

The Vikings compete at Mall of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This impressive domed stadium seats an amazing 64,111 football fans. An interesting feature of this stadium is the completely air-supported roof that makes the dome.  The Metrodome is a perfect addition to downtown Minneapolis, because it is located only short light rails ride from both Target Field (MLB) and Target Center (NBA). It comes to no surprise that sports fans from all over come out to see these teams play in their respected fields. Though the stadium is still impressive, the Vikings organization will be building a new stadium for the 2016 season, appropriately named New Vikings Stadium.

What do the Vikings need to do to reestablish a winning record? Simply focus on developing a team with talent and the goal of nothing less than a championship. Though this may seem to be the goal of every team, the Vikings believe this developmental stage, will lead to great reward. By keeping faith in their returning players, and instilling trust in their new recruits, the Vikings look to show the NFL that with hard work and desire to win, any team can come back from a slump. For the Minnesota Vikings, this upcoming season will give them a good idea as to whether their development strategies are paying off. They have the confidence that they are starting something great.
