Formed in 1909, the Montreal Canadiens are the only NHL team to exist before the NHL itself. They also hold the record for the longest operating professional ice hockey team and are apart of the original six teams in the NHL. The Canadiens are in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference and play at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.

Jacques Martin, the head coach of the Canadiens, has been with a long standing team for a short period of time. It is only his second season with the Canadiens after he joined them in 2009. Before the Canadiens, he coached the Florida Panthers, the Ottawa Senators, and the St. Louis Blues.

The Canadiens finished off the 2010-11 season with an impressive record of 44 wins and only 30 loses. This placed them at second in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference and guaranteed them a playoff spot. They were seeded sixth in the Eastern Conference and faced off against the Boston Bruins. Unfortunately, the Bruins were the ones to win the series.

The current home of the Canadiens is the Bell Centre, which opened in 1996. It was built to replace the Canadiens original home, the Montreal Forum. It has the amazing capacity to hold 21,273 people and, in 2008, it was the 6th busiest arena, in the world, based on ticket sales.

With 31 Stanley Cup appearances and 23 championships, the Canadiens have the top Stanley Cup record in the NHL. The Detroit Red Wings are the only other team that is within reach of them with 11 championships. In 1976, the Canadiens were able to win the Stanley Cup four times in a row. Their latest win was in 1993.

The Montreal Canadiens have been in the NHL for the longest time and have had the most Stanley Cup wins. They have always given their fans something to be proud of and will continue to keep their fans proud of their very own Canadiens.
