The New York Knickerbockers, otherwise known as the New York Knicks, were formed in 1946. The reason they are called the Knickerbockers is that it refers to the type of fashion style the Dutch settlers wore when they would roll up their pants just below the knee. The Knicks are in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, where they play at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City, New York.

In the past years, the Knicks have been struggling to gain their status back as a great basketball team. It wasn't until Mike K'Antoni came along, in 2008, till the team would see steps towards their goal with his coaching style focusing on offensive attack. In 2009, the Knicks had the second highest three point field goal shots and in the 2010-11 season, they had the ninth highest scoring record.

The 2010-11 season was average for the Knicks. They were victorious 42 times, but lost 40 times, placing them at second place in the Atlantic Division. With the sixth playoff seed in the Eastern Conference, they battled against the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately, the battle turned into a massacre and the Knicks were swept.

The home of the Knicks is Madison Square Garden, which was opened, at its current location, in 1968, with a seating capacity of 19,763 people. The seats are placed horizontally from the floor and have a more gradual incline than other North American Arenas. This causes the view from the seats to be more level with the floor.

The Knicks have had no problem plowing their way to the NBA championship with eight appearances, but have been unable to capitalize on their accomplishments. They have only won two championships. Their first one was in 1970 followed by the one in 1973.

Building a team back up to its prime is not an overnight event. The right coach and the right team need to be in place to spark the flame that brings a team to victory. Soon, the Knicks will be back on top, reaching for their next championship.
