Philadelphia Phillies, two time World Series champions (1980 & 2008) have the longest held city franchise in professional sports in the United States. The franchise came into being in 1883 after replacing the Worcester Worcesters, a member of Major League Baseball (MLB) in the National League (NL) and is still in existence today.

Because of this one hundred twenty-eight year record, and unfortunately long streaks not making the playoffs, the Phillies have the record of losing the most games ever in a franchise's history - 10,000 in 2007. In the team's first ninety-two years, ninety years were without a playoff appearance.

The glory years of 1976 to 1983 gave fans something to cheer about the organization made it to the pennant round five times and brought two home. They also made three World Series appearances bringing the trophy home once (1980). Again, in 1993 they reached the championships but lost to Toronto. Currently, in the past three years 2008-2010 they have gone to the finals three times and won once.

Because of this current bountiful streak, the attendance at Citizens Bank Park has averaged 3.1 million people each season since the stadiums opening in 2004. In April 2011 during the opening three game series with the Houston Astros, an attendance record was broken by averaging over 45,000 people per game. Win the games and they will come.

The franchise has supported the ALS Association of Philadelphia as a charitable entity since 1984. In over 25 years of raising money, the team has generated in excess of ten million USD. Bringing this same thoughtfulness and sense of community to the environment the organization is the third largest consumer of one hundred percent renewable energy. Additionally, plastic, glass, and cardboard are recycled.

Through nearly 130 years, the Philadelphia Phillies have survived in this once capital of the U. S. The fans, though, known to be harsh, boisterous, and odd, are loyal to the bone. Maybe with continued wins, the fans will be placated and calmed.
