Phish the band originates from American roots and has built their reputation from massive amounts of touring and performances filled with innovative musical improvisations. Throughout the years, people have come to know them for their spontaneity and ability to play on the fly. From the start, their main goal involved creating a improvisatory and complex music style. Over the years, they have experimented with musical variations from all types of genres. Initially, the members met at the University of Vermont.
This occurred in 1983 after Trey Anastasio posted flyer's in search of band members. In response, Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman, in addition to Jeff Holdsworth and in no time were gigging regularly alongside Anastasio in the Burlington area. In 1985, Page McConnell joined as the keyboardist.
Soon after, McConnell persuaded Anastasio and Fishman to join him at Goddard College. When they did, Holdsworth left the four soon after. Ultimately, this has left them as the primary members since 1985. In addition to the keyboardist Anastasio plays the guitar and acts as the lead vocalist. Gordon additionally does vocals, as well as bass, while Fishman plays the drums and other percussion instruments.
For more than 20 years, they played together before breaking up in August of 2004. Once again, they reunited in Hampton Virginia to perform at the Hampton Coliseum in March of 2009. Ever since their reunion, they have continued to perform regularly.
