The Phoenix Coyotes were first formed in 1972 as the Winnipeg Jets in the World Hockey Association. It wasn't until 1979 that the Jets moved to the NHL. When the team moved to Phoenix in 1996, they were renamed the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes are currently owned by the NHL when they filed for bankruptcy in 2009. The Coyotes are in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference, where they play at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

The leader of the pack is Dave Tippett, who was signed on as the Coyotes' head coach in 2009. In his first year, he was able to crush the franchise's record for most wins and was able to get the Coyotes to their first playoff appearance since 2002. Before the Coyotes, Tippett was the head coach of the Dallas Stars for six seasons and lead them to two division titles

The Coyotes were able to snatch 43 wins and only 23 loses in the 2010-11 season. They were ranked at third in the Pacific Division and won a spot in the playoffs. With the sixth seed in the playoffs, the Coyotes took the ice against the Detroit Red Wings, but were swept.

The Jobing.com Arena is the home den for the Coyotes and is located in Glendale, Arizona. The America West Arena, was the original home to the Coyotes, but they moved to the Jobing.com Arena when it opened in 2003. The new stadium has a seating capacity of 17,125 people.

The Coyotes have been unable to make it to the Stanley Cup championship as the Coyotes or the Jets, but their fans should not give up hope. Their new coach has proved himself to be able to turn this team around. He has already made progress and has gotten them to a well deserved playoff appearance. Now the fans will just have to wait till everything clicks to give the Coyotes their first Stanley Cup championship.
