Ra Ra Riot is the indie band with a penchant for chamber pop that has a new album and new tour set to usher in the this year. The new album is Beta Love, the third from the group, and the touring schedule includes Ra Ra Riot tickets for concert dates with fellow indie rockers Passion Pit and Joy Formidable.
Beta Love has been introduced with a title track as its single. This is quite exciting as fans have been waiting for something new from the group for nearly three years. The single is has taken Ra Ra Riot from chamber pop to a confluence of indie pop and electronic dance music. Obviously the sound lacks the tempo to make this a true dance band, but the use of Wes Miles falsetto vocals and a steady deep bass makes this a feel good song. Combine flashes of violinist Rebecca Zeller and the Ra Ra Riot have made it clear the band will be on the short list of indie rock groups to brighten the day during the gloomy winter and the band to welcome the sun during the spring and summer.
Filling out the lineup is bassist Mathieu Santos, guitarist Milo Bonacci, and drummer Kenny Bernard. The CMJ and south SXSW veterans have been performing together since the middle of the first decade of the new century and have had quite a list of musicians to leave, including John Ryan Pike, who is now deceased. Hopefully this lineup can weather the new tour and deliver a new album in less than three years.
Beta Love follows full-length studio albums The Rhumb Line and the Orchard. “Boy” and “Too Dramatic” helped the Ra Ra Riot grow from a band on critics’ list of favorite up-and-comers to an indie orchestra well known in the indie rock genre.
