Formed in 1981, Slayer is renowned metal band from The US. It was founded by two guitarists, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. Slayer along with other renowned thrash metal bands such as Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax are regarded as the 'Big Four'. The band’s musical traits involve guitar solos, shouting vocals, double bass drumming and fast tremolo picking. Slayer’s album arts and lyrics cover diverse topics such as genocide, religion, Nazism, murder, warfare, insanity, Satanism and suicide. The band is best known for being able to speak through perspective and without being sympathetic to everything including the cause of the band’s inspiration.
Ever since the band released their debut record 30 years ago, it has released one cover album, two live albums, one box set, one VHS , eleven studio albums, three DVD and two EPs. Among the eleven studio albums released by the band, four of them have received golden certification in US. Slayer has also received a total of three Grammy Awards. Though the band was formed back in 1981, the band managed to record their first album 2 years later. Their first song 'Black Magic' was released in February 1983. According to some, especially the critics of the band, this was one of the most evil, darkest and heaviest songs ever released by any band or artist. Besides Iron maiden and Metallica, Slayer has been termed as the most covered thrash metal band not only in US but in the whole universe. How the band came up with the name Slayer has remained a mystery to many people, with some people insinuating that the band was initially known as Dragonslayer.
