Social Distortion is the American punk rock band that has had more trouble finding their niche than most with the almost revolving door that was their line-up and after 37 years of performing the bands only original member is currently lead front man Mike Ness. The band that refuses to quit continues to tour and record music to everyone’s surprise and delight. They have released seven full-length studio albums, two compilations, one live albums, and two DVD’s.. Even with the stopping and starting over the band has maintained a steady following and are considered one of the best-selling punk rock bands performing live today with more than three million albums sold worldwide. Social Distortion rose to fame with their 1990 self-titled third album which produced their well-known hit singles Ball and Chain, Story of My Life and the cover of Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire and was certified gold by RIAA. Social Distortion’s musical style began as punk rock or hardcore punk they are thought to be one of the pioneering bands of the original Southern California punk rock movement out of Orange County, CA. Finding their niche finally in the late 90s they are considered to be mostly rockabilly with a harmony and melody that they have made uniquely their own. The majority of songs are written by Ness and commonly have a theme about impulsiveness and its consequences and the hard struggle kids have reaching maturity.
