Steve Martin was born Stephen Glenn Martin in 1945, in Texas. He was born into a Baptist family and is a vegetarian. For three years his first job was selling guidebooks over weekends and during the summer vacations. During his free time he would visit the local Magic Shop where he learnt tricks and illusions. In time, he started working for tips doing magic tricks and creating animals with balloons.
After graduating from High School, he took drama classes and English poetry. He started acting in comedies at the Bird Cage Theatre. He later met Stormie Sherk and started practicing comedy and became involved in a relationship with her.
He enrolled and majored in Philosophy at University and was interested in becoming a professor. His interest later switched to theatre where he started working in clubs at night. In 1967 he became a writer for a show and won an Emmy Award. He first appeared on television on The Steve Allen show in 1969. He later appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Gong Show and NBC's Saturday Night Live.
He has released comedy albums that went platinum. He first appeared in a movie in 1977, The Absent-Minded Waiter, a film which was 7 minutes long and which was later nominated for an Academy Award. The first feature film that this talented actor appeared in, was Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band which was a huge success. He featured in many successful movies after that, one popular movie being Father of the Bride.
He wrote his first play in 1993 and then, many more successful plays followed. He first published a novel in 2010 called An Object of Beauty. He has been married twice. His first marriage lasted eight years. Steve Martin is a man of many talents: actor, comedian, musician, author, producer, playwright and composer.
