Styx was a popular rock band known for many hit songs between 1975 and the early 1983. The band split up in 1983, after the conclusion of their Kilroy tour, and each member started their own solo career. They reunited in the early 1990s, but disbanded again when they could not compete with the popular Grunge bands. Over the past several years, they have toured with a variety of popular bands from their era.

They are well known for their hit songs that include Renegade, Lady, The Best of Times, Too Much Time on My Hands, Come Sail Away, Babe, and Mr. Roboto). Other hits included Show Me the Way and Don't Let It End. RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) awarded the band with multi-platinum awards for consecutive albums.

While enormously successful with their 1983 Kilroy tour, tensions between the band members caused them to break up. Tommy Shaw and Dennis DeYoung produced a series of solo albums. Shaw scored a hit with Girls with Guns, released in 1984. DeYoung produced two hits that were heavily promoted on MTV, Desert Moon and Don't Wait for Heroes.

The band reformed again in 1989, with Glen Burtnik replacing Tommy Shaw. They produced one album, called Edge of the Century, which featured DeYoung's Show Me the Way. This song became popular when the first Persian Gulf War erupted. Despite the song's success as well as a successful tour in 1991, they were dropped when PolyGram Records bought A&M Records. The growing popularity of Grunge music was another factor, which ultimately caused the band to break up again in 1992.

Styx has opened for a variety of popular rock bands since 2007, when they went on tour with Def Leppard and Foreigner. They have since toured with Boston, . 38 Special, and REO Speedwagon. They joined the band, Yes, on a Progressive USA Tour in July of 2011.
