Tampa Bay Rays Tickets

Tampa Bay Rays tickets to Tropicana Field are available for fans excited for the opportunity to enjoy the clubs fourth consecutive 90-plus win season in 2013. This is not an unattainable dream, as the club has one of the best rotations in the MLB and the key offensive cogs to make this a reality.

David Price is not only a verifiable ace, but a Cy Young Tropicana Field Ticketscandidate. He leads a stellar but rather unknown group that also features Matt Moore, Jeremy Hellickson, and Jeff Niemann. If Alex Cobb is indeed as good as the Rays’ scouts believe, then the rest of the AL East best be prepared for another season struggling to score two runs against the Rays.

The offensive cogs are 3B Evan Longoria and 2B Ben Zorbist. Longoria is a power hitter who makes excellent contact and demonstrates great patience at the plate. Zorbist is not going to hit quite as many homeruns or hit for as high of a batting average, but he is still one of the best offensive players at his position.

The Tampa Bay Rays were added in the midst of the homerun race in the late 1990s. Of course the then-Devil Rays had been a longtime coming. The MLB had been trying to put a club in the Florida panhandle for a while. The area had been the site of spring training baseball for decades, so when the league looked to expand it seemed natural to put one of the next baseball teams there.

As much as the team was welcome, the club struggled, even though they arrived in the league in the era of free agency. Tampa Bay posted a losing record each of its first ten seasons. The baseball team had always been a little strapped for cash and consistently tried to a competitive roster from the farm system.

The clubs fortunes changed in 2008. The club did not change its strategy, but did change its name. Tampa Bay dropped the Devil and became the Rays. Fans and pundits joke that the name change altered the club’s momentum. In reality, the farm system had had enough years to develop and the front office had been shrewd enough to add high value/low cost players.

Tampa suddenly had one of the best starting pitching rotations in the MLB. Matt Garza, Scott Kazmir, James Shields, and Edwin Jackson were forces on the mound and began an incredible run that continues to this day. The Rays have yet to give their fans a losing season since that year and the club has even made the playoffs three times. The most successful campaign came that first year of the era, when the Rays won the AL East and played in their first World Series. Tampa Bay lost to Philadelphia and have to yet come back, but they have been a contender ever since.
