Goo Goo Dolls Concert Tickets 

John Rzeznik, Robby Takac, and Mike Malinin, are known worldwide as the American rock band, The Goo Goo Dolls, which was formed back in 1986. The ban originally called themselves The Sex Maggots, a name which was changed very quickly, after a promoter refused to hire them.

The three performers chose the new name for the band from a True Detective advertisement for a certain toy called of course, a Goo Goo Doll. According to John, they were a garage band, young, and needed a name in a hurry for a gig that they had one evening, and this particular name was the best they could come up with at the time.

He stated that if he had of had a few minutes more to think about it, he would have more than likely come up with something better. However, being very unusual, the name stuck, and the band became the famous performers they are today. Their first album in 1987, The Goo Goo Dolls, was released on Mercenary Records, but later on in 1988, was taken over by another, larger record company, Celluloid Records. After moving to Los Angeles in 1989, their second album, Jed, was released, and a third, Hold Me Up, in 1990, featuring Rzeznik as the lead singer on five of the tracks.

Superstar Car Wash was their fourth album and was released in 1993, and it received a significant amount of media attention. It was just after recording A Boy Named Goo in December 1994, the bands fifth album, that previous band member George Tutuska was asked to leave. Mike Malinin was then hired early in 1995; the band thrived, and went on countless tours.

It is without a doubt that it is the unusual, but nevertheless catchy name of the band that contributed significantly to its success which eventually had them making a guest appearance on the popular television show, Beverly Hills 90210, and at one point, even be the presenters of an award to none other than the great Michael Jackson.
