It is common to hear of a Canadian team that participates in the NHL, but what about a Canadian team in the NBA. The Toronto Raptors are not only a Canadian team, they are the only Canadian team in the NBA. The Raptors were formed in 1995 and are in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, where they play at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario.

After the previous head coach's, Jay Triano's, contract was not renewed, the Raptors set out to find a new head coach and ran into Dwane Casey, who joined the Raptors in 2011. Casey has had plenty of coaching experience in the NBA. He has been an assistant coach for the Seattle SuperSonics and the Dallas Mavericks and a head coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 2010-11 season showed that the Raptors are not as ferocious as one would think. They were only able to gain 22 wins and were stuck with 60 loses. This unfortunate record put them at last place in the Atlantic Division and 14th place in the Eastern Conference.

The home of the Raptors is the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Opened in 1999, it has revolutionized many features that are in new arenas today. In 2006, it was the 11th busiest arena in the world and has the capacity to hold 19,800 people. It is a multi purpose arena that is able to cater to basketball, hockey, lacrosse, concerts, wrestling, and even theatre. Future renovations will bring two more restaurants, a hotel, retail shopping, condominiums, a supermarket, broadcast studio, and a public square to the arena.

The lack of NBA championships or championship appearances can mislead one to think that the Raptors have never been a great team. Most of the time, this assumption is true, but they do have a Division Title, which makes people take a second glance at the team. All a team needs is for the coaches and the players to come together and when that day comes, Toronto will have a great basketball team.
