The Vancouver Canucks were founded in 1945 in the Pacific Coast Hockey League. In 1952, they moved to the Western Hockey League and then in 1970, they were in the NHL. They are the current Western Conference champions and are in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference, where they play at the Roger Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.

With five years with the Canucks, Alain Vigneault is their current head coach. As their head coach, he was able to build a .588 win percentage, which is the best win percentage in the team's history. He was also able to bring them to the Stanley Cup finals, but was unable to bring it home. Previously, he was the head coach for the Montreal Canadiens.

The Canucks had a fantastic 2010-11 season, with 54 wins and only 19 loses. This stellar record put them at first in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference, clinch the President's Trophy, and the number one seed in the Stanley Cup playoffs. In the playoffs, they were able to skate by the Chicago Blackhawks, the Nashville Predators, and the San Jose Sharks. In the championship, they forced a game seven with the Boston Bruins, but the Bruins were able to shut them out and take the Stanley Cup.

The Roger Arena, home to the Canucks, was opened in 1995. The original seating capacity of the stadium was 18,422, but with multiple renovations over the years, the current seating capacity is at 19,700. The arena has also received upgraded video displays and audio speakers.

With three appearances in the Stanley Cup championship, the Canucks have been unable to secure a title. They lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994, and the Boston Bruins in 2011.
